Y-cam now compatible with Dovado 3G Routers for installs anywhere

Posted on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Y-cam and Dovado allows for a truly mobile security camera solution

Many customers who use Y-cam love the concept of internet cameras, but sometimes want to install them in places where broadband isn’t available, or is not practical to install. With the Dovado 3G router, you can create a truly mobile wireless network – that a Y-cam can use – with minimal fuss and installation, practically anywhere.

Dovado manufacturer robust 3G-based routers – routers that can use, and share, the internet connection provided by mobile phone networks. With the increase in coverage and speed of mobile internet, 3G solutions are now becoming a viable alternative for remote internet connections, and therefore remote IP camera installs.

The Dovado range of routers are compatible with most 3G dongles and internet services, with new networks and devices being added all the time, meaning that devices from networks like 3, Orange or Vodafone will all work within minutes of set-up.

Coupling a Dovado 3G router with a Y-cam allows you to setup an internet accessible security camera almost anywhere. From monitoring a holiday home, to securing your boat, or even setting up a camera in a remote garden shed, the applications are limitless.

Benefits of using Y-cam with a 3G router

- removes the need for broadband, ideal for where no phone line is connected or broadband is too expensive.
- can be installed anywhere, just add power.
- use with Y-cam Bullet, or an indoor Y-cam and Shell, for a robust weatherproof security solution.
- can work in conjunction with your existing alarm, so you can check everything is OK in real-time.
- unreliable 3G signal? Couple with a microSD equipped camera and it can store files locally until signal strength improves.

Watch the video below for a quick example of how a 3G router can be setup with a Y-cam.

    Hi John
A 16GB SD card is not officially supported by Y-cam at this time. We currently only support 8GB, although some 16GB cards do work with the camera.

How much a card can store is variable, as it depends on audio and video settings etc. We've done some rough sums – which you can find in our knowledge base – http://support.y-cam.com/index.php?action=kb&ar… – a very rough answer is 20 hours at high quality, 2500 at low quality.

In darkness, the Nightvision equipped cameras produce a very dim red glow around the lens when the infrared is on, so they are visible, but not overly accentuated.
