What is wireless Wi-Fi N?

Posted on Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen a growing interest in wireless Wi-Fi N, especially with the launch of our Bullet HD camera. But what does this mean? How does it work? Does it affect Y-cam installations? All great questions and as we venture into the realm of Wireless N we thought now would be the perfect time to explore this growing technology.

What is wireless N?

Wireless N is an existing development that utilises advanced technology to increase the wireless network range and operating speed, as well as solidifying your connections reliability up to 600Mbps. This means that it is possible to run even more Y-cam cameras simultaneously and at an increased distance from the hub router without having to worry about interference or network drop-outs, meaning you are always connected and secure.

Wireless N (802.11n) operates on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, so now the network can work up to five times faster with a much superior signal strength, proving up to twice the distance than the traditional 802.11g.

How does this affect me?

This affects Y-cam customers in two ways: 1) The introduction of Wireless N into homes means these advancements are there to be utilised more frequently. 2) The addition of wireless N to Y-cam cameras means that you can now take advantage of this advanced technology. Customers who are able to utilise this feature will experience a optimised operation, perfect for any installation, especially within a demanding network.
