Retailers predicted to suffer over £1 billion in losses this Christmas
Posted on Monday, December 12th, 2011
Experts have predicted that this is to be the hardest Christmas season for retailers yet, and therefore it is crucial for retailers to be prepared for this predicted onslaught of seasonal crime.

Research conducted by Centre for Retail Research saw that the high street should expect to see an additional £61 million in losses this year compared to last year. Of the total £1 billion predicted loss the majority (£656 million) will be due to shop lifting.
The director of Centre for Retail Research explains “It shouldn’t come as a surprise to the industry that shoplifting, employee theft and supply chain fraud are likely to increase during the festive period – after all, retailers are less rigorous in their controls at this time of the year. However, the implications should not be underestimated. Christmas crime has increased by 6.2% since the 2010 research, which is symptomatic of the tough times we are facing as a nation. The double pressures of a weak economy combined with the most expensive time of the year will inevitably lead to an increase in loss so unfortunately it is likely that it will worsen further before it gets any better.”
Against the background of these shocking figures it is clear that retailers need to take action and protect themselves this festive season. To see how a Y-cam solution can help keep you in control please check out www.y-cam.com/retail.
