Office security: Y-cam & QNAP help catch a thief

We love it when our cameras do just what they are made to – help people out and solve real problems. And what better problem to solve than fighting crime? So just like Batman and Robin, Y-cam and QNAP have been able to do just that by helping independent London business, The Financial Partnership, catch and prosecute a burglar who decided to try his luck on their premises.
Striking at the weekend and in broad daylight, The Financial Partnership was targeted by an opportunistic burglar. Entering the building without shame by the front door, the thief ransacked the offices and stole two laptops. However, help was on hand.
Mr.Shah, owner of Financial Partnership, received a number of emails from his Y-cam cameras containing snapshots of the burglar. “Amazingly I could see the burglar’s picture right there on my phone – I had snapshots of him coming through the door, going into the offices – everything”. As well as recorded images, Mr.Shah had all the footage recorded on his QNAP VioStor NVR drive.
The footage didn’t go to waste, as Mr.Shah was able to pass it all over to the Police within moments of the crime occurring; “After speaking to the police, I told them I had pictures of the burglar and they asked me to send them to the investigating officer. I logged in to the QNAP NVR from home, downloaded the video footage and then just emailed it across. It took five minutes!”
This simple and swift approach meant that the Police could act fast, and within an hour the culprit was in custody and the stolen laptops were recovered. A win for all involved.
