New Y-cam Customer Forum

Posted on Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

The new forum is live now, why not head over and post your experiences?

As part of our ongoing aim to be more customer-focused and open, we have launched a customer forum for questions relating to Y-cam and its compatible devices.

As well as our support tickets and knowledge base, we now hope that our new forum will be another great place for Y-cam customers to get answers to their problems.

We love hearing back from our customers. Many tell us good things we can be proud of, others give us new ideas, and some tell us the things they are not happy with that we need to resolve. In order to make communication easier, the forum gives our users a platform to ask questions and voice their opinions.

Please help us by taking some time out to let us know your thoughts on Y-cam and its products. This can be about anything, including any ideas or suggestions that you feel will improve our products or service.  Remember, Y-cam is always listening, so if you have an idea, let us know, and we will see if we can implement it in to future firmware or products.

If I want to use the Y-Cam black SD as an external camera using the compatible housing, how do you manage the power supply? Does the mains adaptor have a reasonably long lead for the 5V supply?

  • http://www.y-cam.com Y-cam Solutions Ltd

    Hi Darren.

All of our cameras come with a 3m long power supply.

The Y-cam Shell is semi-cable managed, and depending on how you have it wired, normally requires a standard waterproof junction box to house the power and network connection to it, or the ability to feed it straight through a wall (all depends on whereabouts you have it installed!)

Heres a link to the setup manual if you need more information – http://www.y-cam.com/docs/Manual-Y-cam-Shell-EN-FR-DE-IT-NL-ES-v2.1.pdf

Thanks for the information. What’s the maximum operating distance of the motion detector ? This will also determine where the camera can be mounted.
    BR,
    Darrel.

Hi Darrel, the motion detection is based on pixels, not distance.

Of the 640×480 pixel screen size, the smallest motion detection window possible is 131×37 pixels (so pretty small!) and then you can set threshold and sensitivity on to this to alert you or not.

    I hope this helps

    I have a new Y-Cam.
I have it all setup, but can’t seem to get access to it from my blackberry or from any external computers via internet. I setup an account with DTDNS, but it’s not working. I had the camera working for a few days from my cell-phone and external computers via internet, but then I lose access. This has happened twice now. Does this have anything to do with having a dynamic external ip address. What can I do to fix this issue?

Thank You for any help you can provide.

Hi Bradley, could be a few things (may be something simple as setting DNS servers, or incorrect settings for the DTDNS account, or it could by no UPNP, so you’ll need to open ports). All fairly straight forward things, but something our tech department can help you fix in moments.

I’ll pass on your details and enquiry and they will contact you as soon as they can.

I was wondering if you plan on offering better support for mac customers? Currently with security spy, you can only record video and not audio. There is no solution for mac users that allows them to get audio and video unless they have a windows machine to assist them. Therefore MAC only shops are out of luck. I find it kind of mis leading how everyone seems to indicate full MAC support in regards to your products but no one seems to indicate how to go about achieving this.
