Gain Ultimate Connectivity with Y-cam’s New S Range

Posted on Monday, November 15th, 2010

Today we are proud to announce the launch of our new “S” range of IP cameras, featuring three models: Y-cam White S, Knight S and Black S.

The new S range replaces Y-cam’s massively successful Classic range of cameras, with these new models having updated hardware and software.  The S range is fully PC and Mac compatible, working cross-platform and cross-browser, and comes complete with extended functionality such as easy WiFi setup and NAS-Ready™ – allowing you to record footage direct to virtually any NAS drive.

The range is made up of the Y-cam White S, a day camera with a full colour low-light view, and the Y-cam Black S and Y-cam Knight S, which have identical specs but different colour housing, both offering infrared nightvision for round-the-clock viewing.

S Range features in brief:
-  Full PC & Mac compatibility
-  Adds Y-cam’s new NAS-Ready feature, direct recording to virtually all NAS drives
-  Improved WiFi network search capabilities
-  Cross browser compatibility using Flash and QuickTime

This new entry-level range means that even the most affordable of our cameras are fully Mac compatible, something that the Mac community will be pleased to hear, with prices for S range cameras starting at £120 SRP.

As with all Y-cam cameras these models come with Y-cam Setup software to simplify installation, as well as Y-cam’s free viewing software MultiLive, allowing for quick and simple monitoring of up to 36 cameras on one screen, plus compatibility with Y-cam’s free apps for iPhone, Android and Symbian smartphones (with Blackberry and iPad coming soon).

Product Codes

Any hope of letting people “Trade-up” to the S Range (trade in their old Ycams + $$ to get the new CROSS-PLATFORM version that we’ve all been begging for)

guys .. some 5 months when i purchased this camera, i took the time to provide you, in good faith, with substantial feedback on improvements to the current set of functionality on the sd knight.

i felt you might take some notice to the changes to your menu structure, your UI design, your security, your logging, troubleshooting and your functionality.

now -.. you release 4.21 firmware update for this camera and rather than improving the product – you add yet another partially implemented and faulty feature: NAS storage.

for the love of god, please fix what is broken first – before adding more crap. your implementation of NAS storage is truly dreadful and it is difficult to know where to start with the problems.

i, like others on the web, have issues with random rebooting, inconsistent UI screens, incorrect help files and just plain non-working or missing functionality.

who in their right mind implements NAS storage but fails to update all the other UI functions to support it. Click ‘snapshot at interval’ > get greeted with a ‘sd card not ready screen. Click continuous record > browse . get greeted with a ‘sd card not readyscreen. enable continuous record = constant crsshing and rebooting of the device.

use a NAS with a subfolder path > greeted with a failure to write the y-cam required folder structure.

what continues to baffle me is your “…accepted successfully” messages. these do nothing but say “web server understood you when you pressed the Apply button”. instead, why don’t you add code to actually validate the settings entered; test the connections specified and provide some meaningful feedback to the user about the settings.

why not add troubleshooting and logging so we can see what’s going on .

in summary – excellent camera and hardware – let down by an increasingly lousy software implementation and very suspect technical support from the company.

serious thought is needed and considered and timely feedback on what you are going to do about these increasing problems.
