Free Y-cam viewer app for iPhone & Android

UPDATE: We have now released a new version of our MultiLive for iPhone application which adds the invaluable audio feature. To find out more about the apps upgraded features plus the link to download please check out our dedicated blog article.

In our continued effort to provide easy to use and accessible IP camera solutions, we have developed free applications for the iPhone and Android for viewing Y-cam cameras, available to all from the Apple App Store and the Android Marketplace.

Y-cam MultiLive gives you a quick and easy way to view your Y-cam camera video stream(s) directly from your phone, on the move, from wherever you are.

Y-cam MultiLive for iPhone and Android supports all current Y-cam models*, and allows for up to 8 camera feeds to be saved to the phone for instant viewing. Camera feeds can be connected to via local (i.e. home network) or external networks (i.e. the internet), and allows for viewing over 3G and WiFi.

* MultiLive for iPhone and Android does not support 1st Generation Y-cams with firmware v1.98 or lower as these cameras do not support MJPEG.

    i switched form the eyespyfx to the native multilive app and everthing works!
    Nice, simple clean interface and basic functionality.

    I do hope though that ycam will add some functionality in the near future with updates on multilive.

    i suggest:

    - Ability to rotate the camera
    - Ability to pinch and zoom
    - Firmwareupdates on the cameresoftware to support sound on Apple devices

    and maybe some basic settings to control te camera.

    Anyway….good and stable job!

    The Android app is designed for phones with a HVGA resolution (480×360 pixels) and above. The X10 Mini Pro uses a QVGA resolution (240×320 pixels). We are currently working on making the app usable with QVGA phones.
    Android Market hides apps that are not suitable for your phone, so this is probably why you cannot find it.

    Many people use a Y-cam as a baby monitor due to its excellent nightvision capabilities and motion detection.

    Our free application does not currently support audio, however our developers are working on this as a priority, and we hope to have an update soon.

    In the mean time, a product called Baby Monitor HD supports a wide range of Y-cam functionality, including audio streaming and audio alerts, plus the ability to remotely turn on/off nightvision and much more.

    It doesn’t sound like you are connected properly. Forget the /mobile extension, that is not needed here.

    You IP/DNS:PORT should be something like :

    213.218.26.109:80 (a real camera)
    ycamdenmark1.no-ip.net:8155 (a real camera)
    myname.no-ip.biz:8150 (fake)

    Hi Norrie

    Most Blackberrys will display the native stream without an app – go to your cameras address and add /mobile on the end, then select 3GPP stream – it should load in your media player. Let me know if you have problems or what model you have.

    What we have found with some stream Android devices is that the quality of the video is set too high in the camera stream – try lowering the quality and see if that makes any difference to the stream working on the phone or not.

    Hi, it is currently not possible to turn the night vision on/off with our app, however our developers are working on making this possible with our next app release. You can control this via your camera’s settings, where you can turn night vision on/off and to auto. Thanks

    My live feed works fine until approx 10am each day then multilive says my camera is offline but I know it’s not as the motion detetcion is e-mailing me snapshots! I tried setting it up with a dyndns address but the problem still persists.

    Hi Hannah, I think the most likely reason this is happening is because of a bandwidth issue- if you could reduce the MJPEG quality of primary stream within your Y-cam Settings this should hopefully resolve the issue. I hope this helps.

    I’ve continued to struggle with the “Camera Offline” message. I can access externally via browser using IP:Port, but the Y-Cam app is consistently giving the message. I brought the primary stream MJPEG quality to 20, but didn’t help. Anything else I can try? I’d like to see my baby from work! Thanks so much.

    Tries that and now it doesn’t work 100% of the time. I tried downloading a 3rd party android app and that worked for a while but now they both say camera is offline, even when I can view it from my laptop at home.

    I am using an Android phone: HTC’s Droid Incredible
    I’ve not attempted to access the camera externally using Safari, but I did successfully use Safari from an iPad within my local WiFi. Is it worth trying another Android app to view the camera? I haven’t read many positive experiences doing that within web blogs, and I don’t have confidence it will alleviate my “camera offline” condition. Also, is there a test camera setup somewhere I could try from the y-cam app? Thank you!

    Hi Ga, I think the most likely reason this is happening is because camera is not connected properly. Please could you try re-entering you cameras details and reduce the MJPEG quality of primary stream, within your Y-cam Settings, as this should hopefully solve the issue. I hope this helps.

    Hi! I just got the Y-Cam Knight, set it up – and even got it to load in my iPhone app. Very cool! However, I’m not getting sound when playing via iPhone – just image. I do get sound when playing via MultiLive as well as in PC browser. Can you help?

    I tried with the iPhone and it works with both Safari and the YCam application except for the audio (doesn’t come through on either).

    Further, I downloaded the FireFox browser on my Android phone and it was able to authenticate / connect. I could see picture on the browser, but again, no audio. Better than nothing, but I’d still like to pursue resolving the Y-cam Android application issue. Being that it’s able to connect via the iPhone app, I am thinking there’s some type of certification issue when connecting via the Android app from my smartphone. Thanks!

    The app is not working. I cannot authenticate via the ycam app. I was only able to access the camera via FireFox web browser on my Android phone. Why would there be no sound when I do get sound via browser within the camera’s local WiFi. Thanks.

    Why can’t the audio be heard via internet browser outside the local WiFi network? Accessing via a web browser through my router using port forwarding only seems to show video. Is this a setting somewhere? The router is not filtering… it’s just routing the packets.

    Also, the Android app completely doesn’t seem to work. I’m not getting any audio or video. Since I can easily access via external connection using browser, it seems to be an issue with the app. Do you have any test camera I can use to test, thereby ensuring it is not a phone setting? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jon,

    Can we ask what Y-cam you have? as any camera with firmware below 3.39 will not support audio out of Internet Explorer. If you have a camera with firmware 4.01 or above audio should not be an issue. We do have a range of demo cameras which can be accessed via our website (http://www.y-cam.com/cms/gallery.php), all the usernames and passwords are guest.

    Hi guys, sent an email but..

    Previously had a lot of problem with blank screen in Android app. Worked OK in night vision mode, but during the day blank screen. After some troubleshooting it was found that when I dropped the streams the app worked fine. But just recently I have noticed that my Y Cam blacks keep reverting to the highest stream setting for primary/secondary etc and hence I am back to blank screen in the Android app.

    Can anyone explain why the app won’t work with highest stream, or tell me how I can force the Y Cam blacks to remain at the lower streame rates…. thanks

    Update: Stream setting will not save (comes up with error) so not sure if this function works or not. Digging into my home setup it appears that my Synology NAS pushes settings to the cams (DSM 3.0). Once I changed the settings in DSM 3.0 the streamer remained at the lower settings.. (albeit with no way to change the resolution between primary and secondary streams..)

    Hi,
    How I see ‘am one of the many disappointed customers with the new version of your software for Android phones.
    The version before worked perfectly, without any problems or glitches.
    However, there are several major issues with this new one:
    1. Although the new version is supposed to enable sound there is either no sound at all or the application crashes completely when I try to enable sound.
    2. I am also unable to choose between two streams – if I try to change settings the application crashes or just says there is an error.
    3. During the day I can connect to the camera but the screen is black whereas during the night (when there is little light) I can see shadows and bright spots of interior.
    Without any instructions on how to set stream I have one working camera (tomorrow I will have two) that I can’t survey with my Android phone (which was one of the reasons for choosing Y-IP Cam).

    Please can you fix this new version of software (and give some instructions on how to setup stream) or give us the opportunity to download the previous, working version of software.

    A brilliant enhancement to the android app would be to switch on the Ycam’s security alarm settings on the ycam when the android phone is out of proximity of the ycam. This would mean that when you leave the house, the ycam would automatically start sending alerts when movement is detected but stop when you return home. There are several proximity type android apps that execute tasks based on location so I know it can be done!

    I just installed this app on my new Droid Incredible (HTC). My camera format is MVPEG. I entered all the information requested, and when it searches for my camera, it tells me it is offline. However, I am viewing it at that moment, on my computer screen, so that is not the case. I entered the IP/DNS:Port info as http:xxxxx.:xxxx Is there something I am doing wrong? I gave my camera a name here. Did I have to use a specific name? Please help.

    Hi Sherib, sorry you are experiencing a problem with the app. I believe this is happening due to the cameras address being imputed slightly incorrect. The address should look like XXXX:XX rather than http:xxxxx.:xxxx. Hopefully this should rectify the issue and if you have any further problems please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks

    Got a YCam Knight updated to v3.39 and when I connect on the iPhone multilive app I get a white screen. I’ve tried internal IP range and external DNS, included port and excluded it and no luck. I tried dropping the quality on the primary stream down and still no luck. Any ideas ?

    Hi Iain, Glad it works via your browser – the usual culprit for this is either the username or admin is incorrect or that the Primary stream is above 50. However, I know you have checked this, so could I please ask you to test using 3g and Wifi and email the results to our tech support (support (at) y-cam.com), who I have notified of your issue and will be able to assist you in resolving this issue. Apologies again for this inconvenience and I hope the matter is resolved quickly.

    It is still possible to view your cameras stream via our phone, either via your browser using your external address and DDNS or with a compatible app such as ipcamviwer (http://bit.ly/hjzXYI). Thanks

    Hi Peter, due to the nature of our cameras they are very rarely used as a webcam, therefore in turn through Skype. I believe it may be possible if you could find software that receives the data from a IP port rather than a USB, however, we have never tried this but in theory could work. I hope this helps.

    Hello, currently our app only allows users to view their cameras footage and does not allow for editing the cameras settings. Apologies for the inconvenience, however our developers are currently working extremely hard on making this possible and we expect v2 to be launched in March.

    Hello, I am afraid that our camera viewing apps only support a Y-cam camera which is why your camera is appearing offline. There are a lot of additional apps within the app store which will allow you to view you cameras stream. I hope this helps.

    This app is working fine now, but it still has the same bug in that if you edit a camera it then states it’s offline… (for example change the name). The only way around this is to delete the camera and re-add. Apart from that A+

    HI there are so many IP addresses in the system info, which one do u use for the iphone App ??, it states IP / DNS:Port ? which do u use, one or both I’ve tried them all and can not get the iphone to pick up the camera from else where.

    Hi, Sorry you are having a few issues with the iPhone app, to get the application to work you will need your cameras external IP address, which can be found at http://www.canyouseeme.org/, plus then your port. I hope this helps and you can now access the camera from your phone.

    Hello Alok, sorry you are having trouble. Can I ask if it is a Y-cam White or White S that you own? As unfortunately the White is not supported on iPhone or Mac, as they do not support MJPEG stream.

    Hello Alok, I am sorry for this inconvenience but I am afraid because your camera is a first generation White model (which is now discontinued), which only supports Active X it is not able to be viewed via a phone or Mac. Because of this we are not aware of and 3rd Party software that will allow you to view you camera this way, however it works perfectly with a PC and IE. Apologies again

    Hello, we’re really sorry that you are experiencing a problem with the app – The main reason for experiencing the ‘White screen’ is either the username or admin is incorrect or that the Primary stream is above 50. If I could ask you to adjust your settings of the primary stream to 50 or below, this should combat the problem. Thanks

    Thank you for the release op an updated Android App (v. 1.2). I’m using it with my Y-Cam Knight 4.21 (build 20101016).
    I was happy to see the “Enable Sound” button in the updated App, but when I want to enable the sound, the App says: “Place your camera under DMZ zond of the router”.
    Strange because I did already… what can I try now?

    Hi,i have a y-cam black 2nd gen,i also have a ifone 4 with ycam app on it,i did the latest ifone 4 app for my phone last night to get the new sound update,camera on fone works fine but when you touch the sound button to turn on sound on the screen it just says buffering all the time can you please advise what this problem could be?would be greatfull for a reply as ive used this tech support before but no reply kind regards Paul

    Hello, sorry that you are experiencing an issue with receiving audio, the most common reason for this that your cameras settings need amending slightly. Can I ask you to please enable audio within your camera setting and mobile stream setting and then disable the mobile authentication (RTSP authentication).     i like it apart from when saving settings it says no network connection available (even though viewing the camera works in the same app), also enable sound when viewing stays stuck on buffering?

    Thanks, we glad that you are linking the app so far, and sorry for the snags you have encountered – Regarding the audio can I ask you to please enable audio within your camera setting and mobile stream setting and then disable the mobile authentication (RTSP authentication) and this should solve that issue.     Hi, Ive got the latest version of Ycam app. The audio still wont come through. It stops buffering goes to the live image but no audio. I cant figure out what im doing wrong.
    My cameras are all set on different ports i.e 192.168.0.24:30004 etc… Is there a certain port they need to be on to play audio. I shouldn’t think so as the audio comes through on evocam without any special port configuration…. Any suggestions??

    No I am not, I am trying to receive streaming from the ycam to the iphone.  I can view streaming on the iphone from typing the url into safari, but figured the app would be better suited for this.  However, I or my family members have had no luck with the iphone app.  My phone opens up what looks to be quick time player and then proceeds to tell me “This movie format is not supported”.  Where as an out of town family member said when trying on her 4g iphone it says camera offline, however, one can view it from the url on a pc or through safari.
